110406 Interview with ryo, sono and soshi - "Happiness Sound Day" at SHINJUKU LOFT

Interview by: Chibita
 master+mind .Original interview in Japanese

  • Why did you think about becoming singers?
ryo: I started listening to rock for a friend who listened to BOOWY, since that I also listened to American artists like Nirvana or Pearl Jam. So, start getting involved of English bands was really an objective. What's more, when I was into UK's music I also used to listen Japanese indie bands. For that time, I received a big influence of D’ERLANGER, ZI:KILL, Kuroyume and different artists such as the ones from Extasy Records, L’Arc~en~Ciel and visual kei dawning bands.

sono: I like to sing since I was an elementary student. When I went to middle school I started to be influenced by YOSHIKI from X JAPAN and I wanted to become a drummer, but in the band we had already one. I made a distinction singing the songs I liked from the start.

soshi: Since long ago I received influences from the singers of the bands I admired. The reason was that I wanted to stand on a stage fascinating the crowd in the same way.

  • As singers, how do you plan the performance?
ryo: Taking the charm of the band and music within to color with clarity the atmosphere with my voice and the performance.

sono: If I enjoy it myself, guests can enjoy it as well. It’s obvious. I also keep in mind as protagonist how to express at best the feelings of the lyrics.

soshi: When I sing, I always sing to the accompaniment of the band with big movements, with the intention to make everyone of the guests pay attention with their own eyes. To create an atmosphere without tensions, to face it with a strong mind, without being perturbed. As an entertainer I always try to have the spirit of service to make the guests enjoy it.

  • For you, how is your band?
ryo: To me, the band is what makes me aim at my objectives without compromise or what makes me express my secret feelings which can not be expressed in daily life.It may be like a vehicle which takes me to the place where I want to go or a helmet that protects me.

sono: Playground on the working area.

soshi: Heart’s support. They are support.

  • When you create the stage for the concert, what’s the point you fuss over?
ryo: Speaking of that, I fuss over everything. I think with other artists It’s the same. If I dare to say something...maybe it would be that I always try to create the "breathtaking moment" at a concert.

sono: In that situation I control the space to lead the feelings and the vigor of the fans. So, I stay in the middle without clatter trying not to move a lot.

soshi: Since after the rehearsal comes the concert, I practice carefuly with that in mind.

  • What means "the public" for you? How do they make you feel?
ryo: If I could describe it properly with words…all the precious people that value our work, activities. Who looks at our work with strict eyes and tries to taste its depth's nectar that comes in contact with their mood and feelings in one or another way. From who I feel the pressure. On the other hand, I want to surprise them. I'm really grateful to all the people who supports us.

sono: They’re friends who likes same music. It’s beautiful to be able to share the same feelings at the same time.

soshi: They’re everything.

  •  What is for you “music”, “rock”?
 ryo: “Yearning”. “Palpitation”

sono: Radiance

soshi: Rhythm

  • Memories about “Shinjuku LOFT”, what do you remember about this place?
ryo: I remember had played some time ago in the LOFT after moving. Before forming 9GOATS BLACK OUT I took part on a event called ‘D’ERLANGER NIGHT’. I had a lot of fun.

sono: I haven’t played in the LOFT yet, some of my friends from a punk band have already played there. Their impression was “this is a very rocker place”. (Lit. 「箱」“box”).

soshi: It gives me the impression to be a veteran music hall.

  • Tell us something you wanna do from now on. An aim you wanna achieve.
ryo: 9GOATS BLACK OUT was in a period of inactivity around the middle of last year. Since January, we are active again. Since the big earthquake the 11th of March, and from now on with our activities, I’m thinking about how I can express my feelings.

sono: I don’t want our music to stop growing. I want to work a lot, enjoy a lot. I want to make something unique on visual kei. As objective, I want to believe that one day I’ll perform in Tokyo Dome.

soshiI will give my best in every concert in order to be more skillful.

  •  Tell us something about the event of the 6th of April.
ryo: Now is a very important moment to keep our hearts tightly, to be able to hold our “master mind” from now on .

sonoThis time every band will assemble their only and unique world-view. We want to show our world-view working hard. It’s been a while since we don’t play with 9GOATS BLACK OUT and also the first time we play with Shoujo-Lolita-23q. I hope we have fun.

soshi: There’s not too much introduction. I hope we enjoy the three-man concert.

  • Please, tell us what you want to do, what you're aiming for.
ryo: I want to get more "deeply" into 9GOATS BLACK OUT's activities. As an objective...I want a private studio for 9GOATS (laughs). Concerning our activities and our own equipment, I would be happy if we could upgrade some things.
